Columbia College Calgary is a not-for-profit college, strengthened through many levels of support and innovation that is found through its current students, graduates, staff, facilitators, employers, donors, governments and associations.



Columbia College is looking for an HR Advisor to join their team. This position will be responsible for end-to-end Human Resources administration and support and will act as a main point of contact for all staff for all HR matters. 



  • General HR Support
    • Provide support and assistance to Managers responsible for HR related inquires
    • Provide support in record keeping, the creation, collection and maintenance of files, archiving employee files and human resource materials
    • Lead employee HR portion of orientation and assist managers with onboarding process for new hires.
    • Prepares Employee Offer letters and Employment Agreements, Warning letters, Termination letters as well as annual Salary Total Compensation letters.
    • Prepare letters/documentation requested by employees (employment verification, Record of Employment, salary changes
    • Facilitate an annual review of wages, benefits and present for discussion with Manager and VP, Finance.
    • Facilitate group benefit enrollments, terminations and ongoing administration
    • Prepare Employer WCB and Group Benefit Disability claim documents
    • Assist managers in process to submit update position descriptions
    • Support managers when difficult employee performance issues arise
  • Payroll Support
    • Set up new employees in the payroll system
    • Respond to inquiries and requests
    • Tracking vacation/sick time
    • Facilitating expense reimbursements
    • Ongoing payroll reviews/submissions



  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent combination of experience, education and training
  • Minimum 2 years' progressive human resources experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior experience with Pay Works or a similar payroll software is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is essential
  • Working knowledge of employment law, Employment Standards and Human Rights
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to prioritize and strong time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact effectively with colleagues at all levels, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Integrity, discretion and judgment with tact and diplomacy on confidential matters
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills


*The schedule for this position will be 28-32 hours per week, and there is an opportunity for it to develop into a full-time role in the future. Columbia College also offers a flexible work schedule and an on-site childcare facility if required.
