About the Senior Buyer Role

Reporting to the Director of International Procurement, the Senior Buyer coordinates purchases and manages supply of products for distribution, materials for manufacturing, and MRO (maintenance/repair/operations) materials according to forecast demand for each location. The role also sources new materials as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase rubber products for distribution from our key partners, both in and outside of North America, according to the forecast demand in the ERP system.
  • Purchase raw materials, MRO and office/safety supplies as required by Operations.
  • Initiate request for quotes/proposals and supply agreements as necessary for items not already covered under purchasing agreements.
  • Source new materials as directed by Production/R&D/Marketing/Engineering.
  • Review inventory stocking levels, reorder points and lead time for all items and adjust where necessary according to regularly updated forecasts.
  • Coordinate ocean freight vendor sourcing. Review and provide direction to our suppliers on which forwarder to use to ensure on-time delivery at best price.
  • Develop prioritized manufacturing/shipment schedules for each supplier and monitor to ensure timely completion of orders, providing regular status updates to the sales and operations teams as applicable.
  • Regularly review forecasted demand vs. available capacity at our outsourced manufacturing partners and advise as part of the Sales and Operation planning process.
  • Participate as an active member of our monthly Sales and Operations Planning process.
  • Maintain regular contact with key suppliers to build and maintain relationships.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Some post-secondary education- a completed degree, diploma or certificate is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of purchasing experience
  • APICS, PMAC, or SCMA certification is an asset
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong Analytical focus and high level of attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a factory environment
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written
  • Fluency in both spoken and written Mandarin is an asset
  • Process focused/analytical problem-solver
  • Independent worker who takes ownership for responsibilities
  • Driven to achieve with emphasis on results
  • Team player who respects others
  • Detail-oriented
