The Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) is excited to announce an opening at our Edmonton location in Eastglen Composite High School.

SoM provides top quality music education at no cost for at risk and underserved children and youth. As advocates helping children and youth transcend barriers they may be facing, our program uses music as a tool of inspiration for students to connect with themselves and one another in a safe and nurturing environment.

Position Title

Site Manager Sarah McLachlan School of Music, Edmonton

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Programs and Operations, the Operations Manager in Edmonton holds a leadership position responsible for the overall program operations at our Eastglen location. This position works closely with the Leadership Team in Vancouver to ensure that the strategic direction and vision is operationalized at all levels in Edmonton.

Work Performed


  • Communicates SoM's vision and builds the relationship between SoM Leadership and Edmonton sites to create the best possible programming for our students and staff
  • Models and promotes the organization's mission, vision and values
  • Manages and supervises all Teaching Artist and Program Support Staff
  • Determines staffing requirements, in consultation with the Leadership Team
  • Develops employee engagement strategies
  • Encourages staff to continually develop their knowledge of professional practices through training courses and seminars
  • Oversees and administers the performance management program for all Teaching Artists and program support staff.
  • Contributes to the short and long-term organizational planning and strategy

Operations & Programming

  • Manages all daily operations of the organization, including scheduling, attendance, and timely opening and closing daily
  • Oversees school location budget and expenses
  • Works closely with School Senior staff to ensure all landlord requirements are met, and SoM location is optimized
  • Builds and develops supportive relationships with instructional staff and students
  • Ensures a safe and supportive environment for students
  • Increase effectiveness and efficiency of support services through improvements to each function (HR, IT, Fundraising) as well as communication and coordination between functions
  • Determines a plan to operationalize the strategic program vision, in consultation with Senior Director, Programs & Operations as well as the Creative Director


  • Contributes to development of materials for Fundraising collateral and grant applications

Community & Public Relations

  • Assures that the school and Its' mission and programs are consistently presented in a positive manner to all stakeholders
  • Act as ambassador to the school in all settings, supporting the mission of SoM
  • Builds relationships with likeminded organizations to foster the development of the School and its' programming
  • Coordinate inquiries from organizations interested in student performances
  • Negotiate honorariums and choosing outside performances
  • Develop an operations plan to support all stakeholders
  • Oversees long-term project development with internal and external pa

Education/Work Experience

  • University degree and five to ten years of experience in the operation of a non-profit organization including Facilities Management, Administration, Human Resources and Program Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in team building and project management
  • Current Criminal Records Check
  • Current Child Intervention Records Check


  • Demonstrated ability to implement vision, think strategically and execute action plans
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills to effectively convey complex information to audiences from diverse backgrounds at all organizational levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
  • Detail oriented, superior organizational and analytic skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, resolve problems, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment,
  • Ability to navigate difficult conversations, identify potential problems and to develop and implement effective, practical solutions,
  • Proficiency in student information systems, Google Suite & Slack
