Reporting directly to Joanne Smith (Senior Research Technician), the Research Technician will perform the following duties on behalf of the Company. The Research Technician will be involved in all aspects of mouse / rat monoclonal antibody development including cell culturing and reagent preparation. They will have strong collaboration skills while following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Primary Responsibilities:

Mouse / Rat Monoclonal Antibody Development

  • Assist in the process of generating hybridomas
  • Perform general cell culture of hybridomas including feeding, cryopreservation, thawing, preparation of cell culture supernatants, etc.
  • Perform fusions as required
  • Transfer hybridomas from semi-solid media
  • Assist ELISA technicians to scale up / feed positive cultures after analysis
  • Prepare completed media for cell culture
  • Execute media quality control program
  • Perform Protein G / Protein A purifications
  • Assist with labeling and packaging client-related samples for shipment
  • Coordinate with other technicians and advise when cultures are ready for testing and subcloning
  • Conduct routine PCR-based mycoplasma testing

General Reagent Preparation and Lab Maintenance

  • Monitor hybridoma lab reagent stocks and ensure the availability of general lab buffers: Restock hybridoma lab supplies
  • Communicate with the procurement department with regards to orders
  • Assist in lab organization, equipment maintenance, cleaning and waste management.

Data Management

  • Maintain accurate and complete process and data records in the development and production of monoclonal antibodies
  • Document and maintain media and reagent preparation records critical for lot traceability purposes
  • Assist in generation and editing of SOP's

Such other duties as the Company may assign to you from time to time

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in biochemistry/microbiology/biology and/or equivalent experience
  • Previous lab/cell culture experience desirable
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking capabilities
  • Highly motivated and collaborative
  • Must have flexible work schedule some weekend work required
